In the present essay, we discuss how scientific knowledge is unfolding within sociology, mainly through three main bases of environmental sociology: the realists, the constructivists and the realist-constructivist, i.e., according to the theory of risk society. This article does not cover the environment in its ecological sense, as commonly knowing, but the urban environment, specifically as it is related to the historical and cultural heritage of cities. This paper debates how environmental sociology can bring answers to the equity risk that suffers nowadays. The methodology used was the literature review, through the interdisciplinary perspective, combining themes and concepts from environmental sociology with the heritage issue.|| No presente estudo, discutimos como o conhecimento científico vem se constituindo na Sociologia, principalmente por meio dos três principais vieses da Sociologia Ambiental: os realistas, os construtivistas e os realista-construtivistas, ou seja, com base na teoria da sociedade de risco. Este artigo abrange não o meio ambiente em seu sentido ecológico, comumente conhecido, mas o meio ambiente urbano, especificamente no que se refere ao patrimônio histórico-cultural das cidades. Objetivamos debater como a sociologia ambiental pode contribuir com reflexões sobre o patrimônio que vem sofrendo riscos na contemporaneidade. A metodologia utilizada foi a revisão bibliográfica, mediante a perspectiva interdisciplinar, aliando temas e conceitos da sociologia ambiental com a problemática do patrimônio.
