O artigo discute o conceito de patrimônio, utilizando-se de referências teóricas sobre o tema e também de fontes primárias, por intermédio de depoimentos cujo enfoque é a patrimonialização de bens materiais e imateriais tombados em São Luiz do Paraitinga, interior de São Paulo, considerada patrimônio nacional. O objetivo é fomentar o debate sobre o patrimônio a partir das decisões tomadas por órgãos, como o Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) e o Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Histórico, Arqueológico, Artístico e Turístico (CONDEPHAAT), e pela comunidade de São Luiz do Paraitinga durante a reconstrução da cidade histórica, após a enchente de 2010, que destruiu grande parte do conjunto arquitetônico da cidade. Metodologicamente os autores utilizaram-se de entrevista semiestruturada, de relato etnográfico e, para a análise, do método da triangulação de dados.Palavras-chave: patrimônio, São Luiz do Paraitinga, tombamento.||The article discusses the concept of heritage using theoretical references on the subject and also primary sources through testimonies whose focus is the designation of material and immaterial goods as national heritage in São Luiz do Paraitinga, São Paulo. The aim is to foster debate on heritage on the basis of decisions made by bodies such as the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) and the Council for the Defense of the Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Touristic Heritage (CONDEPHAAT) and by the community of São Luiz do Paraitinga during the reconstruction of the historic city, after the 2010 flood that destroyed much of the architectural ensemble of the city. Methodologically the authors used semi-structured interviews, the ethnographic account and for analyzing the method of data triangulation.Keywords: heritage, São Luiz do Paraitinga, designation as national heritage.
