Throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, with the beginning of a new stage in the history of culture based on the ever-increasing presence of media and imagery, a number of thinkers are beginning to take the media as their starting point. the theoretical development. Based on this assumption, this article is divided into three parts. In the first, we analyze the thoughts of Vilém Flusser and Walter Benjamin that point to the importance of images in the construction of historical narrative. In the second, we discuss ‘the thought by images’ of art historian Aby Warburg. Finally and as a case study, we made a critical reading of the exhibition ISSOÉOSSODISSO by brazilian artist Lenora de Barros, presented at Paço das Artes in partnership with the Oswald de Andrade Cultural Workshop in 2016.||Ao longo do século XX e XXI, com o início de uma nova etapa na história da cultura baseada na presença cada vez mais constante dos aparatos midiáticos e imagéticos, percebe-se o despontar de uma série de pensadores que tomam as mídias e as imagens como ponto de partida para o desenvolvimento teórico. Partindo deste pressuposto o presente artigo divide-se em três partes. Na primeira, analisamos o pensamento de Vilém Flusser e Walter Benjamin que apontam para a importância das imagens na construção da narrativa histórica. Na segunda, discutimos ‘o pensamento por imagens’ dohistoriador da arte Aby Warburg . Por último e como estudo de caso, realizamos uma leitura crítica da exposição ISSOÉOSSODISSO da artista Lenora deBarros, apresentada no Paço das Artes em parceria com a Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade no ano de 2016.
