A partir da pergunta "como poderia Hobbes escrever as leis naturais sendo elas,por definição, não-escritas?", tentarei abordar a relação entre as leis naturais e civisdepois da instauração da commonwealth. Para tal, chamarei a atenção para a distinçãohobbesiana entre "lei escrita" e "registro escrito" da lei e algumas conseqüências a partirdesta distinção. Por exemplo, se como Hobbes nos fala, que a interpretação correta dasleis naturais não dependem dos filósofos e sim da autoridade do Estado, estaria a legitimidadeda própria formulação das leis naturais incluída aí? O paradoxo da perguntainicial deve significar que algo importante foi negligenciado na literatura crítica arespeito das diferenças entre lei civil e lei natural.
