The text proposes to underline important aspects of Celso Furtado´s Thought: his critique and theoretical strategy to supersede the western categories to think the economy. It covers the period when he initiates working at ECLAC in 1948 and occupies public posts in the Brazilian government until the first few months of exile due to the military coup in 1964, after which the “furtadian” structuralist conception of the economy can be enunciated. The rise of decolonial thought in the region had early on in Furtado one of its forefather´s although not always recognized.||El texto propone subrayar aspectos importantes del pensamiento de Celso Furtado: su crítica y estrategia teórica para superar las categorías occidéntricas para pensar la economía. Cubre el período que inicia su trabajo en la Cepal en 1948 y ocupa los cargos públicos dentro del gobierno brasileño hasta los primeros meses de su exilio debido al golpe militar en 1964, cuando ya se puede hablar de la concepción estructuralista de la economía “furtadiana”. El surgimiento del pensamiento decolonial en la región tuvo uno de sus fundadores tempranamente en Furtado, aunque no siempre reconocido.
