The article “The cashew trees: the horizon- landscape of Macunaíma” aims at demonstrating that Mário de Andrade in his rhapsody, published in 1928, chose a tree which is a symbol of our nature and culture to orient the crossing of the hero without any character, in the seek of the muiraquitã stone. The modernist author - from this plant of curved lines which implicitly contrasts with another one of straight lines - meditated the problematic formation of the country, unraveling in the work, reading marks and repertoires of brazilian tradition.||O objetivo do artigo “Os cajueiros: a paisagem-horizonte de Macunaíma” é mostrar que Mário de Andrade em sua rapsódia, publicada em 1928, escolheu uma árvore símbolo da nossa natureza e cultura para orientar a travessia do herói, sem nenhum caráter, em busca da pedra muiraquitã. O autor modernista - a partir dessa planta de linhas curvas que, implicitamente, duela com outra de linhas retas - meditou a problemática formação do país, (des)fiando na obra marcas de leituras e repertórios da tradição brasileira.
