In the official account, the Inhotim Museum began to be conceived by Bernardo de MelloPaz since the mid-1980s. Built within the collector's farm as a non-profit institution, thefoundation was opened in 2006 and today presents one of the most important privatecollections of contemporary art. From the point of view of this article, it is important tounderstand the relationship between the project of an international institution and afarm located in a city of 38,000 inhabitants, a space symbolically marked by the localexperience, but also by the relationship with mineral extraction, the slave past and theproduction of commodities for the international market on the periphery of capitalism.||Na narrativa oficial, o Museu de Inhotim começou a ser concebido por Bernardo de
Mello Paz a partir de meados da década de 1980. Construída dentro fazenda do cole-cionador como instituição sem fins lucrativos, a fundação foi aberta em 2006 e apre-senta hoje uma das mais importantes coleções privadas de arte contemporânea em
âmbito internacional. Do ponto de vista deste artigo, importa entender a relação en-tre o projeto de instituição internacional e uma fazenda encravada numa cidade de
38.000 habitantes, espaço simbolicamente marcado pela experiência local, mas tam-bém pela relação com a mineração, pelo passado escravista e pela produção de com-modities para o mercado internacional na periferia do capitalismo.
