La Poétique de l'Espace (1958) is one of the most important works of Gaston Bachelard's imaginary phase: it presents his mature theses, which constitute his definitive perspective on the question of the poetic image. When the text was translated into English, the editor asked Étienne Gilson, who was Bachelard's colleague and one of the greatest historians of French philosophy, to write a small preface. In this preface, Gilson describes the surprise caused by Bachelard's "aesthetic turn", and holds that the methodological principles created by the philosopher inaugurate a new era in the studies of the philosophy of art. This text is the Portuguese's translation of Gilson's preface.||La Poétique de l'Espace (1958) é uma das obras mais importantes da fase imaginética de Gaston Bachelard: um texto composto de teses maduras, que constituem a sua perspectiva definitiva a respeito da questão da imagem poética. Quando o texto foi traduzido para a língua inglesa, o editor solicitou a Étienne Gilson, um dos maiores historiadores da filosofia franceses - e colega de Bachelard -, que escrevesse um pequeno prefácio. Nele, Gilson descreve a surpresa causada em muitos professores pela "virada estética" de Bachelard, e sustenta que os princípios metodológicos criados pelo filósofo inauguram uma nova era nos estudos da filosofia da arte.
