It is a historical-critical panorama of the censorship of the performing arts interpreted as political practice institutionalized by the Brazilian State, notably during the years of military dictatorship (1964-1985). The established cut summarizes the pre and post-coup events from 64 until the political opening, the promulgation of the 1988 Constitution with the supposed end of censorship, reaching the repression of shows and exhibitions in the national territory after 2016. The argument points to the possible authoritarian’s atavisms of the past and the political and social present in Brazil, conceiving censorship to the arts as being a practice provoked, among others, by conservative sectors of civil society. Finally, arrives a possible reading of the censorship as a historical phenomenon explaining the authoritarian elements that surround the arts in Brazil until this day.

||Trata-se de um panorama histórico-crítico da censura às artes do espetáculo interpretada como prática política institucionalizada pelo Estado brasileiro notadamente durante os anos de ditadura militar (1964 - 1985). O recorte estabelecido elenca os eventos pré e pós-golpe de 64 até a abertura política, a promulgação da Constituição de 1988 com o suposto fim da censura, chegando ao cerceamento a espetáculos e exposições no território nacional pós-2016. A argumentação aventa os possíveis atavismos autoritários do passado e do presente político e social no Brasil, concebendo a censura às artes como sendo uma prática fomentada, entre outros, por setores conservadores da sociedade civil. Por fim, chega-se a uma possível leitura da censura como fenômeno histórico explicitando os elementos autoritários que rondam as artes no Brasil até os dias atuais.
