The colonization of the backlands of Brazil was conducted by cattle. Cattle and cowboys left tracks and set very strict limits on gender identities, marked by patriarchy. In the 2000s, new economic, political and cultural scenarios seem to allow the emergence of otherpossible configurations for the traditional definitions of backcountry men and women. This article deals with the changes provoked by the peripheral globalization that impacted the sexual division of the work, the ways of life and the gender representations in the semiarid zone of Bahia. He makes a feminist cut about the female representations expressed from the social and sexual innovations in the backlands. To understand this scenario, the study mixes contributions from New History, Symbolic Sociology and Ecofeminism, with the macro-narrative of Political Economy. The initiative makes a historical-bibliographic review integrated with analysis of media products. In short, this study is dedicated to understanding who these hybrid men and women are, entrenched between tradition and postmodernity, between the past and new information technologies, between the sertão and the globalized world, between the “Male goat” and “oxen neons”. The answers presented are clues to understand this new generation of backcountry and backcountry, which in an accelerated process of mutations, are reweaving their ways of life.||A colonização dos sertões do Brasil foi conduzida pelo gado. Boiadas e vaqueiros deixaram rastros e fixaram limites de identidades de gênero muito rígidos, marcados pelo patriarcado. Nos anos 2000, novos cenários econômicos, políticos e culturais parecem permitir a emergência de outras configurações possíveis para as tradicionais definições de homens e mulheres sertanejos. Este artigo trata das mudanças provocadas pela globalização periférica que impactaram na divisão sexual do trabalho, nos modos de vida e nas representações de gênero na zona semiárida da Bahia. Ele faz um recorte feminista sobre as representações femininas expressas a partir das inovações sociais e sexuais nos sertões. Para entender este cenário, o estudo mescla aportes da Nova História, da Sociologia Simbólica e do Ecofeminismo, com a macro-narrativa da Economia Política. A iniciativa faz uma revisão histórico-bibliográfica integrada com análise de produtos audiovisuais das últimas décadas. Em síntese, este estudo dedica-se a perceber quem são esses homens e mulheres híbridos, entrincheirados entre a tradição e a pós-modernidade, entre o passado e as novas tecnologias da informação, entre o de-sertão e o mundo globalizado, entre os “cabra machos” e “bois neons”. As respostas apresentadas são pistas para entender esta nova geração de sertanejos e sertanejas, que em um acelerado processo de mutações, estão re-tecendo seus modos de vida.
