The Greek elegy monodic of VII BC initially originated as a liturgical chant, accompanied by musical instruments at banquets and funerals. It was composed of elegiac distichs and traditionally divided by theme upon which dealt: moral, philosophy, war and love. Canonically, The flautist Mimnermo of Colophon was one of its greatest representatives of the loving, hedonistic elegiac poetry. Among the topics most discussed by poet, stands mainly the transience of life, in which it appears that the loving conduct is closely related to bloom of youth, characterizing therefore one of the universal themes of literature: the carpe diem. The objective of this study is to investigate how the poet expresses, in Frag. 2 West, the transience of life and how this engenders love.||A elegia monódica grega do séc.VII a.C., surgida inicialmente como um canto litúrgico, acompanhado de instrumentos musicais em banquetes e funerais, era composta por dísticos elegíacos e tradicionalmente dividida pelo tema sobre o qual versava, a saber: moral, filosofia, guerra e amor. Canonicamente, a poesia elegíaca amorosa e hedonista tinha no flautista Mimnermo de Cólofon um de seus maiores representantes. Dentre os temas mais abordados pelo poeta, destaca-se, principalmente, a transitoriedade da vida, na qual se verifica que o proceder amoroso está intimamente ligado à flor da juventude, caracterizando-se, assim, um dos temas universais da literatura: o carpe diem. Objetiva-se, pois, no trabalho ora proposto, verificar como o poeta aborda, no Frag. 2 West, a efemeridade da vida e como esta engendra o amor.Palavras-chave: Mimnermo, elegia, carpe diem, tradução, poesia.
