This study aims to understand possible connections of academic education and the construction of a new habitus from the non-formal education offered in the social space of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Wanted to relate, through history and institutional memory an academic Unit, such as extracurricular activities may allow the expansion of the cultural capital of the social agents inserted in the cultural field (academic). It starts with the Bourdieu's theory of reproduction of social hierarchies within a field and show up alternatives to social mobility. The construction of the object of research in development, offers provisional findings from the genesis of concepts such as the linking of institutional memory with the formation of group identity; the existence of opportunities for the creation of a new habitus and cultural capital accumulation through the wide range of extracurricular activities offered at the University.||O presente trabalho visa a entender possíveis vinculações da formação acadêmica e da construção de um novo habitus a partir da educação não-formal oferecida no espaço social da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Procura-se relacionar, através da história e da memória institucional de uma Unidade Acadêmica, como as atividades extracurriculares podem permitir a ampliação do capital cultural dos agentes sociais inseridos no campo cultural (acadêmico). Parte-se da teoria bourdiana de reprodução de hierarquias sociais dentro de um campo e apresentam-se alternativas para a mobilidade social. A construção do objeto de pesquisa em desenvolvimento, oferece conclusões provisórias a partir da gênese dos conceitos, tais como, a vinculação da memória institucional com a formação da identidade de grupo; a existência de oportunidades para a criação de um novo habitus e o acúmulo de capital cultural, através da grande oferta de atividades extracurriculares oferecidas na Universidade.
