RESUMO Este trabalho discute as motivações, tratativas e negociações para a vinda de Luiz Heitor Corrêa de Azevedo ao Rio Grande do Sul (1946) como parte do conjunto de missões de pesquisas folclóricas realizadas também em Goiás (1942), Ceará (1943) e Minas Gerais (1944). Para isso, foram analisadas as cartas, trocadas entre Luiz Heitor e o professor do Instituto de Artes, Enio de Freitas e Castro, também presidente da Associação Rio-grandense de Música, nas quais aparecem os interesses e acordos firmados entre esta instituição e o governo do estado para tornar possível a vinda do pesquisador a partir de convite feito por Enio. Foram feitas buscas em jornais de Porto Alegre, onde encontramos notícias que destoavam dos interesses manifestados por Azevedo nas cartas e do que foi realizado pela missão. Nelas, ele expõe o desejo de gravar no RS, em discos, também músicas de caráter “negro-fetichista”, porém, nos jornais são citados apenas registros luso-brasileiros. Esta questão foi levantada por Braga (2004) e, posteriormente, retomada por Aragão (2006) e Prass (2009). A fim de confrontar as informações existentes e levantar novos materiais, realizamos pesquisas no Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Rio Grande do Sul, detentor do arquivo pessoal do professor Enio e da ARM. É a partir dessas novas fontes de arquivo e jornais, que buscamos compreender as motivações da vinda de Luiz Heitor ao estado, relacionada a um inventário da paisagem folclórico-musical do país inaugurado por Mário de Andrade. Além disto, buscamos situar especificamente a missão do RS no contexto histórico da década de 40, do século passado: ao governo nacionalista de Getúlio Vargas, bem como às diretrizes adotadas durante a segunda guerra mundial no âmbito internacional, nacional e regional, de maneira a compreender as tratativas e negociações que possibilitaram sua realização.ABSTRACTThis paper intends to discuss motivations, dealings, and negotiations for the coming of Luiz Heitor Corrêa de Azevedo to Rio Grande do Sul (1946), as part of folkloric research missions held in Goiás (1942), Ceará (1943), and Minas Gerais (1944), too. For this, it were analyzed the letters exchanged between Luiz Heitor and Enio de Freitas e Castro, professor at Institut of Arts and president of Riograndense Association of Music, which revealed the motivations, and the dealings between RAM and the government of Rio Grande do Sul in order to facilitate the arrival of Luiz Heitor since Enio´s invitation. Researching in Porto Alegre’s newspapers, we found news that conflicted with the interests expressed by Azevedo in the letters and what was done by the mission. In them he expressed his will to record in Rio Grande do Sul, on albums, also afrobrazilian religion music, but on the newspapers are mentioned only his will to record lusobrazilian music. This question was raised by Braga (2004), and later continued by Aragão (2006) and Prass (2009). In order to compare the available information and to find new materials, we researched on the Historic and Geoghraphic Institut of Rio Grande do Sul, the owner of the personal archives of Enio de Castro and RAM. Based on these different materials we intend to understand the goals of Luiz Heitor´s travel to Rio Grande do Sul, motivated by Mário de Andrade´s researches on folkore. In addition, we seek to specifically locate the Rio Grande do Sul’s mission in the historical context of the 40’s of the last century: in the nationalist government of Getulio Vargas, as well as in the guidelines adopted during the Second World War in the international, national, and regional levels, in order to understand the discussions and negotiations which enabled its realization.
