O presente trabalho tem como objetivo problematizar e historicizar a situação atual e a impossibilidade de uso público da Casa Modernista da Fazenda Capuava de Flávio de Carvalho, localizada na cidade de Valinhos (SP). Para tanto, partiu-se de um breve histórico da atividade do artista no campo da arquitetura e das características de sua casa modernista. Em seguida, levantamos os entraves que se desenvolveram após a morte do artista, o processo de tombamento do imóvel, enquanto patrimônio histórico cultural, e as promessas da prefeitura da cidade de Valinhos. Como conclusão, desenvolveremos as questões apresentadas relacionando-as com a proposta de urbanização tomada pelo município – expansão de áreas particulares em detrimento de espaços públicos -, evidenciando como, neste caso, arte e política se entrecruzam, fazendo do espaço um território em disputa. ||The present work aims to problematize and historicize the current situation of Flavio de Carvalho’s Casa Modernista da Fazenda Capuava, and the impossibility of its public use. To this end, the starting point was a brief history of the artist’s activity in the field of architecture and the features of his modernist house. Next, we identified the barriers that arose after the artist’s death, the process of granting the building its historical and cultural heritage status, and the promises made by the municipality of Valinhos. Finally, as a conclusion, we develop the questions presented, while relating them with the urban development path taken by the municipality – the expansion of private areas to the detriment of public spaces – demonstra- ting how art and politics cross each other in this case, making the space a territory under dispute.
