This article is an attempt to address the method of writing songs employed by Djavan, one of the greatest songwriters and singers of the 20th century in Brazil, by highlighting his musical singularities such as asymmetric rhythmic forms, a feeling of strangeness and prevalence of musical aspects over the sense of lyrics. It also deals with his major influences – Brazilian popular music, music from the Northeast, Bossa Nova, jazz and pop music||Por meio do levantamento de questões estéticas e biográficas, o artigo busca analisar o método de composição do cancionista Djavan, tendo em vista o exame de algumas de suas apontadas singularidades: estranheza, prevalência de sonoridades sobre referência textual, assimetrias rítmicas e diversidade de influências – Bossa Nova, MPB, música nordestina, jazz e pop.
