Se Clifford Geertz, um dos antropólogos que fazem a virada performativa, nos anos 1970, se propõe a fazer uma “descrição densa” em que seja possível diferenciar um piscar de olhos de uma piscadela marota, Walter Benjamin, que também encontra na vida social, em suas histórias e culturas, textos a serem lidos, procura, nas imagens dialéticas, uma “descrição tensa”(tension-thick description) – carregada de tensões – capaz de produzir nos leitores um fechar e reabrir dos olhos, uma espécie de assombro diante de um espantoso cotidiano – um despertar. Neste artigo pretende-se explorar, em um registro benjaminiano, os limiares, as dobras e os fundos do ensaio de Geertz sobre a briga de galos balinesa. Nessas margens interiores, onde Geertz pode nos surpreender, procura-se ensaiar e repensar algumas das ideias da antropologia da performance. Um detalhe: no caminho apontado procura-se seguir os rastros dos corpos no texto – os seus índices de corporalidade, ou corpo-índices.||While Clifford Geertz, one of the anthropologists who made the performative turn, in the 1970s, proposes a form of “thick description” by which one may distinguish a twitch from a wink, Walter Benjamin, who also speaks of historical and cultural expressions of social life as texts to be read, seeks to find in dialectical images the ways in which “tension-thick description” – charged with tension – is capable of provoking in readers a shutting and reopening of eyes, with a shudder, an experience of astoundment in face of estranged daily life – a wakening. This article explores in benjaminian fashion the thresholds, folds and bottom regions of Geertz’ essay on balinese cock fights. Within these interior marginal areas, where Geertz may be most suprising, some of the ideas of anthropology of performance are rehearsed and rethought. During the course of the article, traces of bodies, or body indexes, are followed.
