This work deals with short stories as a mediator of orality at basic levels in teaching the Spanish language. The objective of the study is to develop oral dexterity at basic levels of proficiency in Spanish by exposing students to listening to short stories. To undertake the study, we were guided by theories that support the research, such as contributions on the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language, according to (Gargallo, 2010); (Gómez, 2003), regarding the theory relating to oral expression; (Baralo, 2011) and (Krashen, 1981), with the theoretical contribution regarding the acquisition of second languages and, regarding the communicative approach and the task-based approach, we draw on studies by (Campos, 2009) and (Bygate, 2001), respectively. The corpus of this research is based on the short story “Lola”, by Editora Edelsa, in order to stimulate the oral practice of the target audience in question, based on proposed activities that corroborate our hypothesis by verifying that they provide fertile ground for the use of the language Spanish.||Este trabalho trata dos contos como mediador da oralidade em níveis básicos no ensino da língua espanhola. O objetivo do estudo é desenvolver a destreza oral em níveis básicos de proficiência em espanhol a partir da exposição dos alunos à escuta de contos. Para empreender o estudo, pautamo-nos em teorias que respaldam a pesquisa, como as contribuições sobre o ensino e aprendizagem do espanhol como língua estrangeira, segundo (Gargallo, 2010); (Gómez, 2003), no que tange à teoria relativa à expressão oral; (Baralo, 2011) e (Krashen, 1981), com o aporte teórico referente à aquisição de segundas línguas e, no tocante à abordagem comunicativa e o enfoque por tarefas, valemo-nos de estudos de (Campos, 2009) e (Bygate, 2001), respectivamente. O corpus desta pesquisa se baseia no conto “Lola”, da Editora Edelsa, a fim de estimular a prática oral do público alvo em questão, a partir de atividades propostas que corroboram a nossa hipótese ao verificar que propiciam terreno fértil para o uso da língua espanhola.
