The aim of this text is to analyse the arguments that Locke mobilises to demonstrate the difference between animals and humans, from the perspective of personal identity. It is divided into two parts: in the first, the presence of the parrot in Brazil will be evoked, from which Locke draws his example to discuss human identity, a task that will be developed in the second part. We hope to contribute to the debate on the relationship between humans and non-humans, particularly in the English seventeenth century.

O objetivo deste texto é analisar os argumentos que Locke mobiliza para demonstrar a diferença entre o animal e os humanos, a partir da perspectiva da identidade pessoal. Ele está dividido em duas partes: na primeira será evocada a presença do papagaio no Brasil, de onde Locke retira seu exemplo para discutir a identidade humana, tarefa que será desenvolvida na segunda parte. Esperamos contribuir com o debate sobre a relação entre humanos e não-humanos, de modo particular, no século XVII inglês.
