Este artigo analisa o romance Essa gente (2019), de Chico Buarque, enquanto formulação de um dilema de identidade relativo à formação social brasileira. Discutem-se os temas da desfaçatez das classes intelectuais e o uso de categorias raciais como transposições de problemáticas típicas da obra de Buarque, a saber, a relação com o passado e o futuro em um processo histórico calcado em repetições e numa utopia frustrada, o embaralhamento entre ficção e realidade, e o dilema da relação entre “eu” e “outro”.||This paper analyzes the novel Essa gente (2019), by Chico Buarque, as a formulation of an identity dilemma related to Brazil’s social formation. Themes such as the blatancy of the intellectual classes and the use of racial categories are discussed as transpositions of problems typical of Buarque's work, namely the relationship with the past and the future in a historical process based on repetitions and a frustrated utopia, the shuffling between fiction and reality, and the dilemma of the relationship between “self” and “other”.
