O artigo analisa as transformações recentes da metrópole de São Paulo em termos sociais, demográficos, de segregação residencial e de acesso a serviços. As transformações recentes sugerem melhoras em vários indicadores, mas também a permanência e a reconstituição de desigualdades. A metrópole se mostra mais diversificada e crescentemente heterogênea, sendo cada vez mais necessário escaparmos de categorias dualistas de análise.||This article analyses the recent transformations taking place in the metropolis of São Paulo in social and demographical aspects, regarding residential segregation and access to services. The recent changes suggest that several indicators have improved, but also that inequalities have re-emerged and lingered. The metropolis has made itself more diversified and increasingly heterogeneous, which is why it is more and more important not to fall into dualistic categories of analysis.
