O presente artigo explora as características do envolvimento norte--americano no tráfico transatlântico de escravos para Brasil, Cuba eEstados Unidos da América. Tal participação apresentou importantestransformações ao longo do século XIX, como resultado de crescentestensões trazidas pela expansão de novas sensibilidades em relação aotráfico transatlântico de escravos. Atenção especial é dada ao papel doestado de Rhode Island no tráfico e o impacto de legislações abolicionistasna comunidade de traficantes da região norte dos EUA.||The present article explores the characteristics of the North Americaninvolvement in the transatlantic slave trade to Brazil, Cuba, and theUnited States of America. The nature of this participation changed overthe nineteenth century as a result of tensions brought by the rise of newsensibilities regarding the transatlantic slave trade. The article stressesthe role played by the state of Rhode Island on the slave trade and the impact of abolitionist legislation on the slave trading community ofthe northern US.
