The purpose of this article is to present Lady Carrar’s riffles (1937), by Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956), written in 1937, which shows the visceral impact of the Spanish Civil War, in Andalusia, on the daily life of widow of a fisherman, Teresa Carrar. She was committed to prohibiting the military enlistment of her two sons who are suffering from the ongoing clashes between Francoist nationalists, on the one hand, and socialist republicans, on the other. The bibliographical article was based on Ernst Bloch’s philosophy of hope. It is concluded that Brecht had two objectives: to make the public aware of the dangers of neutrality in times of war and the vital importance of a collective and solidary involvement against the threat of a military dictatorship; and stand in favor of the socialist cause.||A proposta do artigo é apresentar Die Gewehre der Frau Carrar [Os fuzis da Senhora Carrar], escrita em 1937, por Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956), que mostra o visceral impacto da Guerra Civil Espanhola, na Andaluzia, no cotidiano da viúva de um pescador, Teresa Carrar. Ela estava empenhada em proibir o alistamento militar de seus dois filhos que sofrem com o desenrolar dos embates entre nacionalistas franquistas, de um lado, e republicanos socialistas, de outro. O artigo de caráter bibliográfico foi baseado na filosofia da esperança de Ernst Bloch. Conclui-se que Brecht teve dois objetivos: conscientizar o público sobre os perigos da neutralidade em época de guerra e a importância vital de um envolvimento coletivo e solidário contra a ameaça de uma ditadura militar; e colocar-se a favor da causa socialista.
