This article pretends to expose the disagreements between the poet and philosopher Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) and the theatral director, playwriter and theoric Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) about the moralising role of the theater. Taking as reference some of the main aesthetical thoughts in modern and contemporany philosophy, it is intended here to raise a discussion about a purely aesthetical efficacy of the art and about the possibility of improving the art using heterogeneous elements.||O artigo pretende expor as divergências entre o poeta e filósofo Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) e o encenador, dramaturgo e teórico Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) acerca do papel moralizante do teatro. Tomando como referência alguns princípios fundamentais dos pensamentos estéticos modernos e contemporâneos, intenta-se levantar uma discussão sobre a eficácia puramente estética da arte e sobre a possibilidade de enriquecê-la com elementos heterogêneos.
