Since the beginning of the dictatorship (1933) and until the decriminalization of abortion in Portugal (2007), several women have produced cultural objects in which they portray the reality of illegal abortions. They are relevant for the national and international artistic scene and triggered both social and political repression and broad solidarity movements. In this article, a comparative analysis is made of a set of pieces that show the concern and reality of women who were doing illegal abortions. Through a diachronic approach, literary and artistic representations that were produced at different times in the same culture are analyzed. The methodology of comparative literature and art history is used, applying the close reading and the theory of iconology and iconography by Erwin Panofsky. Starts with Novas Cartas Portuguesas, passing through Grades Vivas and Ela é apenas mulher, focusing later on the Aborto series. We begin by making an introduction, contextualizing the condition of women in Portugal particularly during the Estado Novo, analyzing the cultural representations of the abortion, addressing the social, political persecution and censorship suffered by the authors, ending with a debate on the topic, abortion today, rising threats to the right to the body and respective cultural resistance.||Desde o início da ditadura (1933) e até à despenalização do aborto em Portugal (2007) várias mulheres produziram objetos culturais onde retratam a realidade dos abortos clandestinos. Estas obras são importantes para o panorama artístico nacional e internacional e despoletaram tanto repressão social e política como largos movimentos de solidariedade. Neste artigo faz-se uma análise comparada de um conjunto de peças que evidenciam a preocupação e a realidade das mulheres que faziam desmanches ilegais. Através de uma abordagem diacrónica, analisam-se representações literárias e artísticas que foram produzidas em épocas diferentes numa mesma cultura. Utiliza-se a metodologia da literatura e história de arte comparadas, aplicando o close reading e a teoria da iconologia e iconografia de Erwin Panofsky. Parte-se de Novas cartas portuguesas, passando por Grades vivas e Ela é apenas mulher, focando depois na série Aborto. Começa-se por se fazer uma introdução, contextualiza-se a condição da mulher em Portugal particularmente durante o Estado Novo, analisam-se as representações culturais do aborto, aborda-se a perseguição social, política e a censura sofrida pelas autoras, finalizando-se com um debate sobre o tema do aborto nos dias de hoje, ameaças em ascenção do direito ao corpo e respetiva resistência cultural.
