Neste ensaio, busca-se discutir os aspectos figurativos e operativos envolvidosna construção dos conceitos científicos e, mais especificamente, opapel da imagem mental como suporte figurativo para o estabelecimentodas relações lógicas implicadas na construção desses conceitos. Além disso,busca-se contribuir para a discussão da formação dos conceitos científicos em alunos do ensino superior.||The aim of this essay is to discuss the figurative and operative aspectsinvolved in the construction of scientific concepts and, more specifically, therole the mental image, as conceived by Jean Piaget, plays in it. Furthermore,it searches to contribute to the discussion concerning the construction ofscientific concepts formation in graduate students.
