O presente texto pretende esquadrinhar a expressão literária do gótico a partir de suas origens, no século XVIII, tendo em vista duas perspectivas: o fenômeno histórico, cultural e artístico que, a partir daquele momento e ao longo do século seguinte, transbordou das letras para outras áreas de conhecimento; e o gótico como poética, a qual, após o esgotamento de fórmulas e temas estabelecidos ao longo do período mencionado, passou a fornecer a moldura narrativa ideal para histórias ancoradas no medo e no pessimismo – emoções que inevitavelmente resultam da experiência humana neste mundo.||This text intends to examine the literary expression of Gothic from its origins in the 18th century, taking into account two perspectives: the historical, cultural and artistic phenomenon that, from that moment on and throughout the following century, overflowed from fiction to other areas; and Gothic as a specific poetics, which, after the exhaustion of formulas and themes established throughout the aforementioned period, began to provide the ideal framework for narratives anchored in fear and pessimism – emotions that inevitably result from the human experience in this world.
