This article analyzes the connections between history and memory in post-modern literature through a reading of the book O Retrato do Rei, a novel by Ana Miranda, which follows a trend of post-modernity taking material from History for the fictional development. In this way, this paper also discusses the transience established between literature and history, emphasizing memory as a guiding element of social aspects, whether historical or literary. Finally, some matters will be presented about the process of consolidation of cultural identity, which is directly connected to the development of literature and history in society.||Este artigo pretende analisar os embates entre história e memória na literatura pós-moderna através de uma leitura do livro O Retrato do Rei, romance de Ana Miranda, que segue uma tendência da pós-modernidade ao roubar do tecido histórico matéria para a construção ficcional. Assim sendo, pretende-se analisar a transitoriedade estabelecida entre a literatura e a história, ressaltando a memória como um elemento norteador das construções sociais, sejam elas históricas ou literárias. Por fim, também serão levantadas questões sobre o processo de consolidação de identidade cultural, uma vez que esta se liga diretamente ao desenvolvimento histórico e literário de uma sociedade.
