What is the place of suicide in History? The suggestive question, among other things, concerning the epistemological source, is the center from which the possibilities of historicizing a theme, apparently, not a historical one, are thought. This article intends to present suicide focusing its representations, present, mainly, in the “goodbye letters” left by the people who committed suicides. Taking Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Michel Certeau and Zygmunt Bauman as theoretical references, it intends to study suicide in a temporal dimension in order to understand the way it is configurated in our current historical condition and also to analyze these “goodbye letters”, the representations and relevant practices in this suicidal universe, understanding the way they reveal the cultural aspects of post-modernity.||Qual o lugar do suicídio na História? A pergunta, sugestiva, entre outras coisas, de um problema de matriz epistemológica, é o mote a partir do qual se procura pensar as possibilidades de se historicizar um tema, aparentemente, não histórico. Este artigo tem a pretensão de apresentar o suicídio a partir de suas representações, presentes, especialmente, nas “cartas de adeus” deixadas pelos suicidas. Tomando como aporte teórico pensadores como Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Michel Certeau e Zygmunt Bauman, procuro estudar o suicídio numa dimensão temporal com vistas à possibilidade de entender como ele se configura na nossa atual condição histórica; bem como analisar, nas “cartas de adeus”, as representações e práticas atinentes ao universo suicida, percebendo como eles revelam aspectos culturais da pós-modernidade.
