RESUMOEste artigo tem por finalidade investigar a influência dos imigrantes na formação da classe operária no Rio Grande do Sul, no período da República Velha (1889-1930). Um dos elementos que influenciam a formação da classe operária é o internacionalismo operário a partir da circulação de pessoas, textos e ideias. A circulação das pessoas pressupõe a migração. Como foi significativa ou não a presença de imigrantes na formação da classe operária no Rio Grande do Sul? Esta pesquisa é bibliográfica e exploratória. Utiliza-se técnicas de análise de conteúdo e quantificação. Os imigrantes identificavam-se mais com os elementos da “identidade internacionalista operária”. A formação da classe operária no Rio Grande do Sul foi influenciada de forma significativa pela presença de imigrantes e seus descendentes.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this article is to investigate the influence of immigrants in the construction of the working class in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, during the República Velha (Old Republic) period (1889-1930). One of the elements that have influenced the construction of the working class is the labor internationalism through the circulation of people, texts, and ideas. The circulation of people presupposes the migration. How significant or not was the presence of immigrants in the construction of the working class in Rio Grande do Sul? This research is bibliographic and exploratory. In it are used techniques of analysis of content and quantification. The immigrants identified themselves more with the elements of the “labor internationalism identity”. The construction of the working class in Rio Grande do Sul was significantly influenced by the presence of immigrants and his descendants.
