Becoming Jane (2007) – directed by Julian Jarrold, is a rereading of Jane Austen’s biography that proposes to present facts of the author’s life to explain her incursion in the literary world as well as the elements that contributed for the writing of one of her most famous novels – Pride and Prejudice. Following Haroldo de Campos’ proposition for transcreation and the three-horizon reading of the narratives as presented by Fredric Jameson (1992), the aim of this article is to point out how the biographical film Becoming Jane ‘transcreates’ both Austen’s life and literary work. By doing this reading of Becoming Jane, it will be discussed in which ways the made choices contribute for the building of an image Austen the person and the writer was and reveals even in a hidden way issues about the moment of production of the movie which is marked by the recall of the audience’s interest in biographical texts.||Becoming Jane (2007), dirigida por Julian Jarrold, é uma releitura da biografia de Jane Austen que se propõe a apresentar os fatos que explicam sua incursão no mundo das letras bem como os elementos que contribuíram para a escrita de um de seus mais famosos romances – Orgulho e Preconceito (1813). Partindo do pressuposto da transcriação, como posta por Haroldo de Campos, e da proposta de leitura das narrativas em três horizontes, como apresentado por Fredric Jameson (1992), o objetivo deste artigo é o de apontar como a biografia fílmica Becoming Jane (2007) transcria ambas a vida e a obra de Jane Austen. Ao se empreender essa leitura de Becoming Jane, discutir-se-á em que medida as escolhas feitas contribuem para a construção de uma imagem da pessoa e escritora que Austen foi e revelam, mesmo que de modo velado, questões sobre o momento de produção do filme que é marcado pelo ressurgimento do interesse do público leitor/espectador por textos biográficos.
