O objetivo deste estudo é analisar a atuação dos homens de negócio do sul de Sergipe. Para isso, foram analisados 419 inventários post mortem abertos em Estância entre 1800 e 1849. As mais de três mil dívidas listadas foram minuciosamente examinadas para identificar os perfis dos devedores e credores, além do volume financeiro envolvido nas transações. Por último, foram delineadas as principais características patrimoniais e a extensão das atividades comerciais por meio de uma comparação entre os negociantes de Salvador e os de Estância. O perfil dos negociantes revelou a formação de dois campos comerciais distintos, mas interligados. Nesse contexto, os comerciantes de Estância desempenhavam um papel fundamental tanto na intermediação comercial quanto no abastecimento do sul de Sergipe e das áreas adjacentes da Bahia.||The objective of this study is to analyze the performance of merchants from southern Sergipe, Brazil. To accomplish this, we examined 419 probate records opened in Estância between 1800 and 1849. The extensive list of over three thousand debts was thoroughly scrutinized to identify the profiles of debtors and creditors, as well as the financial magnitude of the transactions. Additionally, by comparing merchants from Salvador with those from Estância, we delineated the primary patrimonial traits and the scope of commercial activities. The profile of the traders revealed the formation of two distinct yet interconnected commercial fields. In this context, the merchants of Estância played a fundamental role in both commercial intermediation and the supply of southern Sergipe and adjacent areas of Bahia.
