RESUMO
O Bairro Moinhos de Vento está localizado próximo à zona central da cidade de Porto Alegre, por onde se deu o primeiro ponto de ocupação territorial desta cidade, que hoje configura uma metrópole. O antigo chapadão, que fica no coração do bairro, por muitos anos acomodou as dependências do Prado Independência, instalado ali até meados do século XX, onde hoje se localiza o Parque Moinhos de Vento. Neste trabalho são analisados os equipamentos urbanos que o bairro recebeu, especificamente entre os anos 1900 e 1950, buscando entender quais seriam as outras ocupações que o bairro recebia paralelamente ao hipódromo, bem como compreender o perfil socioeconômico das famílias que escolheram o Moinhos de Vento para habitar e as razões que levaram estas classes a se interessar pelo local. A prática do turfe foi, sem dúvida o maior chamariz de pessoas para o bairro durante as décadas estudadas, além dos moradores que na época se dividiam em descendentes dos açorianos, colonos alemães e fazendeiros descendentes da elite portuguesa, as novas classes médias oriundas da fase de industrialização e também as classes mais baixas se tornaram público para as corridas de cavalo. Embora frequentado por uma maior diversidade de classes em meados do século XX, o bairro ainda era visto como o berço da aristocracia porto-alegrense. Durante o período estudado o bairro recebeu melhorias provenientes das necessidades que vieram com a verticalização acentuada, ocasionando a gentrificação desta área e ainda a saída dos maiores equipamentos urbanos que a mesma já recebeu. O Moinhos passa a simbolizar a tradição de pioneirismo, onde se estabelece a comercialização do produto ou serviço inédito, e aquele que está ingressando no mercado acaba por se destinar a um público de maior poder aquisitivo. Sem dúvida, o local conta com uma variedade de equipamentos urbanos, construções e perfis de moradores em função de ter recebido vários públicos de culturas distintas durante a primeira metade do século XX. Embora todos estes colonizadores tenham em comum o alto poder aquisitivo, seus costumes, gostos e interesses diferenciados trouxeram ao bairro a diversidade urbana que este traz consigo até os dias atuais.

ABSTRACT
The Moinhos de Vento neighborhood is located near the central area in the city of Porto Alegre, where the first territorial occupation of this city occurred, which today constitutes a metropolis. The old meadow, which is in the heart of the neighborhood, for many years accommodated the facilities of Prado Independência, installed there until the middle of the twentieth century, where today is located the Moinhos de Vento Park. This paper analyzes the urban facilities that the neighborhood received, specifically between the years 1900 and 1950, trying to understand what other occupations the neighborhood would receive alongside the hippodrome, as well as to understand the socioeconomic profile of the families that chose Moinhos de Vento for dwelling and the reasons that led these classes to be interested in the place. The practice of turf was undoubtedly the biggest attraction of people to the neighborhood during the decades studied, besides the residents who at that time were divided by descendants of the Azorean, German settlers and farmers descended from the Portuguese elite, the new middle classes coming from the phase of industrialization as well as the lower classes became able to bet for horse racing. Although frequented by a greater diversity of classes in the mid-twentieth century, the neighborhood was still seen as the main spot of the Porto Alegre aristocracy. During the period studied the neighborhood received improvements from the needs that came with the vertical construction, causing the gentrification of this area and the departure of the largest urban equipment that the zone has ever received. The Moinhos de Vento symbolizes the tradition of pioneering, where is established the commercialization of the unprecedented products or service, and the one that is entering the market ends up destined to a public of greater purchasing power. Undoubtedly, the place has a variety of urban amenities, buildings and profiles of residents because it received various audiences of different cultures during the first half of the twentieth century. Although all these colonizers have in common the high purchasing power, their different customs, tastes and interests brought to the neighborhood the urban diversity that it brings with it until today.
