Playing during childhood has aroused interest in researchers from different fields of study. Thus, the development of this survey in justified because playing doesn´t happen suddenly, but it begins with the link that exists between the mother and the baby, and it becomes assential for the psyco-affective development of the child. When playing games, children are able to substitute, mentally, any object by something real. Childhood is a period of appropriating images and representationships. Based on these theorical premisses, the present study had as aim to investigate the conception of playing for mother of children from 0 to 4 years of age. To carry out this research, at first, a bibliographic review has been done with ten mothers who playing during childhood. Secondly, of empirical nature, semi-directed interviews have been done with ten mothers who answered questions related for the data analysis. Concerning the results, it has been concluded that the mothers in general consider the games as being important for the clild development, and some mothers have answered that the clildren play games because they´ve got nothing else to do. However, most of them affimed that they don´t have time to play with their children and that they prefer the children to play at home toys. It was possible to reach the conclusion that mothers need to play with theyr children more aften, because this contributes to the child development.||O brincar na infância tem sido alvo de interesse de pesquisadores de diferentes áreas. Neste sentido, a realização dessa pesquisa justificou-se pelo fato de que o brincar não acontece de repente, mas inicia-se a partir do vínculo existente entre a mãe e o bebê, e se torna essencial para o desenvolvimento psicoafetivo da criança. Nas brincadeiras, as crianças conseguem substituir mentalmente objetos quaisquer por algo real. A infância é um período de apropriações de imagens e representações. Brincando, a criança sente prazer e inicia a organização das suas relações sociais. Tendo por base esses pressupostos teóricos, o presente estudo teve por objetivo investigar a concepção do brincar em mães de crianças na faixa etária de zero a quatro anos de idade. Para a realização da pesquisa, num primeiro momento, fez-se uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a importância do brincar na infância. Num segundo momento, de natureza empírica, foram realizadas entrevistas semidirigidas com dez mães, as quais responderam questões referentes à forma como concebem a brincadeiras e sua importância para o desenvolvimento infantil. Para a análise dos dados adotou-se uma abordagem qualitativa. Com relação aos resultados, constatou-se que as mães, de um modo geral, consideram que as brincadeiras são importantes para o desenvolvimento infantil, sendo que algumas disseram que as crianças brincam porque não têm mais nada para fazer. Entretanto, a maioria afirmou que não tem tempo para brincar com seus filhos e que preferem que esses brinquem em casa com seus brinquedinhos. Chegou-se à conclusão que as mães precisam brincar com mais freqüência com seus filhos, pois esta atitude contribui para o desenvolvimento infantil.
