Objectives: To determine the post-stroke level of functional independence, the main caregiver’s strains and also check relationship between these variables. Methods: Forty subjects took part in the study, 20 stroke survivors at chronic stage who were evaluated through the Functional Independence Measure (FIM), and 20 caregivers assessed by the Modified Caregiver Strain Index (CSI). Analysis included descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation. Results: From stroke participants 70% were classified as dependent for bathing, dressing and stair-climbing. For 60% of caregivers there was overhead to item “caregiving is confining” also 75% of them showing “poor” stroke knowledge.
