The research is focused on the synonymy phenomenon in translation between the Portuguese language and Brazilian sign language - LIBRAS, focused on the work of Libras professional interpreter. The objective is to analyze the synonymy in the Portuguese language and LIBRASas well as verify the semantic value of the sentences translated by LIBRAS interpreters. The theoretical basis is formed by Lyons (1981); Fernandes & Correia (2011); Chomsky (2006) and Saussure (2006), and studies of the Quadros (2004) and Rosa (2008). We use quantitative and qualitative approach. We obtain the translation for analyzes from sentences written in Portuguese and submitted to translations by LIBRAS interpreters of the Abaetetuba city. Concluded that the synonymy, as a constitutive process of translation, is essential to ensure the meaning in the target language. So any semantic loss as verified in the analyzes in translation with the literal meaning and information increase the interpreter translating for LIBRAS synonymic caused damage to the process. Consequently, the LIBRAS interpreter’s work is very important for the deaf and the translation must be carried out with ethics and responsibility. To be a resource to help the understanding of the deaf in a language that he does not hear.||A pesquisa está voltada para o fenômeno da sinonímia na tradução entre Língua portuguesa (LP) e Libras, como foco o trabalho do profissional intérprete de Libras. Objetiva-se analisar a sinonímia nas referidas línguas como também verificar a valorização semântica entre as sentenças traduzidas pelo intérprete de Libras. O aporte teórico é formado por Lyons (1981); Ilari e Geraldi (2006); Câmara Jr. (2002), além dos estudos de Lacerda (2009) e Rosa (2008). Utilizamos abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. Obtemos as traduções para análises a partir de sentenças escritas em português e submetidas a traduções por intérpretes de Libras do munícipio de Abaetetuba-Pa. Constatou-se que a sinonímia, por ser um processo constitutivo da tradução, é essencial para garantir o sentido na língua de chegada. Assim, qualquer perda semântica como verificada nas análises das traduções com o sentido literal e no acréscimo de informação pelo intérprete na tradução, provocou prejuízos ao processo sinonímico. Consequentemente, o trabalho do intérprete de Libras é muito importante para os surdos e a tradução precisa ser realizadas com ética e responsabilidade. Precisa ser um recurso para atender à compreensão do surdo de uma língua que ele não ouve.
