This study intends to use the concepts of Cultural History in order to reflect over the object of the study, highlighting factors that boosted the development of the city, the installation of a port and the consequent appearance of companies connected to the port sector. Itajaí is revealed in the formation of groups of individuals whose cultural events are linked to the social relationships developed in this society, like the fishing communities that mark their presence through their daily activities and the strong presence in religious festivals and popular events. Therefore, the city must be thought as a space of exchange and living that has an historical past to be considered, but at the same time to launch new looks over the object of this study.||A presente comunicação pretende utilizar os conceitos da História Cultural, a fim de refletir sobre o objeto de estudo, destacando fatores que impulsionaram o desenvolvimento da cidade, a instalação de um porto e o consequente aparecimento de empresas ligadas ao setor portuário. Itajaí revela-se na formação de grupos de indivíduos cujas manifestações culturais estão atreladas às relações sociais desenvolvidas nesta sociedade, como as colônias de pescadores que marcam presença através das suas atividades cotidianas e da forte presença em festejos religiosos e de eventos populares. Portanto, deve-se pensar a cidade enquanto um espaço de troca e convivência, que tem um passado histórico a ser considerado, mas ao mesmo tempo lançar novos olhares sobre este objeto de estudo.
