This article analyses the symbol of water in Pedro Almodóvar's cinema, specifically Pain and Glory (2018), where it not only appears in different scenes, but also in other artistic works, which the filmmaker introduces as intertextuality, with which establishes a dialogue.
It is about analysing the symbolic and imaginary meaning that exists behind the formal beauty of his images, linked to narcissism, life and death, purity and motherhood, to conclude that his work exhibits an own visual style, far from what is real, which reinforces the fictional pact with the viewer and where the symbol shows an objective and universal truth.||Este artículo analiza el símbolo del agua en el cine de Pedro Almodóvar, en concreto, en Dolor y gloria (2018), donde no solo aparece en distintas escenas, sino también en otras obras artísticas, que el cineasta introduce a modo de intertexto, con las que establece un diálogo. Se trata de analizar el significado simbólico e imaginario que existe tras la belleza formal de sus imágenes, vinculado al narcisismo, la vida y la muerte, la pureza y la maternidad, para concluir que su obra exhibe un estilo visual propio, y alejado de lo real, que refuerza el pacto de ficción con el espectador y en el que el símbolo muestra una verdad objetiva y universal.
