The main scope of this paper is to discuss and understand how is the interface between history and visual culture in the movie “Antonio das Mortes” by Glauber Rocha. In this work, the composition of themes such as honor, courage, piety, religious syncretism and the struggle between good and evil, lead us to an amazing cultural universe, of collective memory, as present in oral literature, especially in the “cordel”. The theatrical mise-en-scène and the characters’ performance, express unconscious and uncontrolled dispositions in the texture of image and sound, denying a history’s linear perspective and approaching it of an idea between myth and fable. Thus, we intend to know what the film retains these traditions and the way of expressing them cinematographically.||O escopo principal deste trabalho é discutir e compreender como se dá a interface entre históriae cultura visual no filme “O Dragão da Maldade contra o Santo Guerreiro” de Glauber Rocha.Nesta obra, a composição de temas como a honra, valentia, piedade, o sincretismo religioso e aluta entre bem e mal, remetem-nos a um universo cultural fantástico, da memória coletiva, tãopresente na literatura oral, principalmente, a de cordel. A montagem teatralizada e a performancedos personagens, expressam disposições inconscientes e descontroladas na textura de imagem esom, negando uma idéia linear de história e aproximando-a de uma noção entre mito e fábula.Assim, pretende-se saber o que a referida película retém destas tradições e o modo de expressá-las em imagens cinematográficas.
