Orientador: Paulo Adriano Ronqui||Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes||Resumo: A presente dissertação fornece um relato histórico e apresenta elementos interpretativos do trombone baixo no repertório sacro e sinfônico orquestral. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão histórica da literatura com foco nas primeiras aparições dos trombones graves ao longo do século XVI, suas alterações estruturais no decorrer dos séculos seguintes, até culminar no trombone baixo conhecido na atualidade. Além disso, desenvolveu-se um estudo com ênfase em composições sacras e sinfônicas específicas de distintos períodos da história da música ocidental que utilizaram o trombone baixo em suas instrumentações. Como resultado, foi possível verificar e apresentar as características musicais atribuídas ao instrumento em certas obras ao longo dos séculos. O trabalho de performance da dissertação baseou-se em uma seleção de trechos orquestrais que apresentam tais peculiaridades, às quais foram propostas sugestões de performance. Para justificar essas escolhas, realizou-se gravações desses excertos, com o objetivo de criar uma referência auditiva||Abstract: The present dissertation introduce a historical account and provides interpretative elements of the bass trombone on the sacred and symphonic orchestral repertoire. To achieve this, an historical literature review has been conducted focusing on the first appearances of the low trombones during the 16th century, its structural alterations throughout the following centuries, until reaching the bass trombone known nowadays. In addition to this, a study was carried out focusing on specific sacred and symphonic compositions from distinct periods of the Western music history that made use of the bass trombone in its instrumentations. As a result, it was possible to verify and present the musical characteristics assigned to the instrument in certain works over the centuries. The performance work of the dissertation was based on a selection of orchestral excerpts that present such peculiarities, to which performing suggestions were proposed.
